16/06/2015Cameroon today joins the rest of the World to celebrate the Day of the African child under the theme: “25 Years after the Adoption of the African Children’s Charter: Accelerating our Collective Efforts to End Child Marriage in Africa.”

africanchild_.jgpOne of the activities to mark the celebration of this day in Cameroon is the holding of the children’s parliament, at 11 am during which junior Members of Parliaments are expected to question some senior M.Ps on striking issues in the country.

The celebration of this Day was initiated in 1991 by the Organization of African Unity on June 16th in commemoration of children who were massacred in Soweto in 1976 for protesting against education injustice and inequality in the apartheid regime.

It was therefore designated as the Day of the African Child to be celebrated every year whereby events are organized to promote children’s rights.
